He sets aside the themes often marketed to international buyers as “authentically African”, such as wildlife or vibrant cultural scenes. Instead he paints expansive murals centred on the human figure and makes mixed-media pieces that combine etching, printing and weaving. His process is intuitive, drawing on global influences, Western art in particular, as much as Sub-Saharan traditions.

Evans sees his work as part of a growing movement in African art where the focus is the authentic self-expression of the artist, rather than heritage or location alone.
